ABOUT SHAYNA ROSE
You want to feel at home online. I’ll build that home with you.
You’re someone deep, empathetic, and creative. Unbound by convention. Yet it’s time to give you structure with a site that holds and supports you, your meanings, and what you stand for.
Not to mention what you wish to create…
I’m Shayna Grajo, and I help healers, educators, and artists like you to not only feel at home online, but to live out their meanings. When I moved to Spain in 2022, I wanted to arrive to the meaning of my name. And I’m still arriving. I’d love to help you do the same.
How I got here
born in the usa in 85 (and, like bruce springsteen, in new jersey)
My middle name “Rose” is from my mother’s grandmother and colonial surname “Grajo” is from my father’s fathers. Grajo is Castilian Spanish for a blackbird (and even a symbol of wisdom). “Shayna” from Yiddish and my matrilineal heritage means “beautiful.” How do we live out our names?
grew up in dallas, texas
I grew up a biracial daughter of two diasporas and now locate myself in the middle ground culturally and geographically between the United States and the Philippines. (I’m a dual citizen.) Having a Jewish American mother and a Catholic Filipino father led me to become the Buddhist “medio andaluza” that I am today.
college at colorado state
My degree was in journalism. I was published in Natural Solutions Magazine and Elephant Journal, reported on the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and edited a student newspaper with 34,000 readers. During university I performed with the Santa Clara Vanguard and Oracle Winterguard, and also got hooked on ashtanga vinyasa yoga.
the upstate new york epoch: “ithaca is gorges”
As a licensed massage therapist, yoga instructor, and dance teacher, I was never able to be just the practitioner. I was the administrative assistant at the nonprofit arts school when I was on dance faculty, and I worked guest services at the spa when I was a massage therapist. I get what it’s like to manage marketing solo, as I did while teaching at Cornell University and Ithaca College and throughout my private practice. Luckily, Ithaca taught me a lot about embracing community.
ahora andalucía (menos mal)
I moved to the South of Spain in 2022. I live just north of the Rock of Gibraltar at the intersection of the Atlantic Ocean, Strait of Gibraltar, and Mediterranean Sea. When not working remotely, you can find me “taconeando” in flamenco shoes, enjoying tapas and red wine, taking long walks (on the beach), or flailing at my boyfriend’s rock concerts. I consider myself an immigrant as well as an ever aspiring ally of many I love and admire, including the LGBTQ+ community, trauma survivors, and the Global South.
Maple Creative | at home in the online world
Outside of this independent practice for website design & support, I am also the Care Plan Manager at Maple Creative. We’re a small web design agency rooted in generous marketing, community care, design-first builds, and supporting the environmental justice organizations, nonprofits, and talented leaders that we serve. I partner with Maple so that when your site launches, the support and thought partnership doesn’t stop there: the site can continue to iterate and grow with you.
In her words
Shayna really allowed me to see that there are people out there who (inner)stand me, my work and my purpose in fusing yoga with social justice scholarship. The benefit is that Shayna allowed me to see myself and helped me find the confidence to put myself, my site and my programs out in the world in a way that helps me build on my future.”
